EKITI ELECTION: THE PEOPLE HAVE DECIDED!

AFTERMATH of the recently held Ekiti State Gubernatorial Election, the obvious pointers are radical but highly welcomed. It is an indication that POWER truly and totally lies with the people, the masses who, going by societal psychographic and demographic strata, are empowered to determine who leads them while the determining indices also reflected in the run up to the election.

With all due sense of modesty, it is imperative to congratulate the Governor In-Waiting, Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Peter Fayose while also acknowledging the fact that Mr Ayo Fayose could not have been the best amongst the other candidates in the race but the outcome of the election justified the much expected perception that Nigerians have woken up to the reality of the fact that they will rather vote for a ‘Ragamorfian’ they can see and feel than for a ‘Saint’ as governor who lives ‘UP THE HILL’… far away from the reach of the ordinary man.
Of a matter of fact is the scenario that in the run up to the Election, Ayo Fayose did not pretend nor acted that he is truly a man of the people, a friend to the common man from; ‘OKADA’ Rider to ‘AKARA’ seller and more. Hence, the election was able to demystify the myth that had been built around the power of incumbency as the people came out en mass to change the leadership of their state by giving the ‘closest’ man to them, Ayo Fayose their mandate.

In the reality of this welcome and inspiring development in the history of our dear country, I strongly believe this should serve as a proven political theory for all political aspirants that power, I mean absolute power lies with the masses, the people, the public, and the electorates. For those who think and believe that they have all the money to buy the people's votes during elections without considering and ascertaining their needs and worries, they are now bound for the shock of their lives as Nigerians are poised to surely collect the money without selling their vote or conscience. Interestingly, these political moneybags and jobbers will also need to be ready for admission into the nearest hospital on electiondaybecause STROKE is imminent after the result is announced.

Immediately after Ayo fayose won the PDP primaries and prior to the campaign take – off and election, feelers and signals emanating from the state pointed to a very glearing picture of the end of Dr Kayode Fayemi as Ekiti State governor. Going by insinuations, permutations, analysis, opinions, projections and predictions based on the empirical research methodologies conducted on the candidates, respondents’ facts on opinion polls as well as verdict placed by the Ekiti Public Assembly, it was evident that Fayose will leverage on his popularity in the state to secure victory.

Popularity in this case is his ability to have integrated himself into the mainstream of the people, into the grassroots level, into the core communal and interpersonal echelon of the people. Unfortunately, and quite regretfully, Dr. KayodeFayemi who, despite his impressive and inspirational lofty and refine policies was too far from the people he governed to appreciate his efforts.Rather, he spent half of his time in office going after APC ‘visions’while simultaneously basking in the euphoria and growing in confidence of the support of external forces from allied bodies like Okorocha,Oshiomohle, Amaechi, Aregbesola and Tinubu to perform wonders; forgetting that these are the people who care less about the ordinary Ekiti indigene. Their only concern is the money Fayemi donates to grease the APC locomotive engine to unseat the PDP government of President Goodluck Jonathan.

Going by this rare development, I am using this medium to appeal to My brothers and friends vying for elective offices in Nigeria and most especially in My dear Delta State. From Councillorship to Governorship position, it is imperative for them to draw closer to the ordinary man on the street because they are the ones who will stand in the heat of the scorching sun to vote while those you went about consulting and offering bribes won’t come out. The Dollars, Pounds and Euros money bags and jobbers will not be seen on election day.

For those relying or banking on ‘Power from OGA above’ perhaps owing to their poor, unacceptable and unjustifiable personal, professional and political resume and antecedents, our very own President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan GCFR is insisting on his vow to make the peoples’votes count in every election conducted in Nigeria. He has promised to ensure a FREE & FAIR Election; a ‘ONE MAN - ONE VOTE’ theme as seen and demonstrated in the just concluded Ekiti guberelection.

The EYE-OPENER here is the reality that our leaders and politicians should invest more in the human relationship aspect of Governance rather than the Money relationship aspect. The only permanent thing in life is CHANGE, as it comes, it comes with its elements while we the people have no choice than to tap into the CHANGE MOVING TRAIN!
